  • Biography

    Hi there!

I’m Peter Cohn, a composer, flutist, and currently a student at the University of Michigan pursuing joint degrees in the School of Music, Theater and Dance and the College of Literature, Science and the Arts.

  • Compositional Styles and Influences

My passion is large ensemble works that utilize the unique timbres and qualities of individuals to tell striking and intricate stories, as well as solo and small ensemble works that seek to broaden the scope and capability of instruments while focusing on lyricality and storytelling.

I take inspiration from classic composers, particularly Alfred Reed, Gustav Holst, and Maurice Ravel, while seeking to create distinctly modern music that pushes the boundaries of the art form.

My music is programmatic, with an emphasis on storytelling; frequently inspired by real-life events, at times abstract, always changing.
